THE IDEA
Harvest Hub was designed around the journey between farm and market. The concept brought produce handling, preservation and selling spaces together to help farmers and vendors retain more of a harvest’s value.
Started in January 2023, the project focused on post-harvest losses and food security. The drawings outlined the intended physical hub: modular units, covered areas and a planned layout for day-to-day market activity.
RECOGNITION / 2023
Harvest Hub placed second in the 2023 KNBS Data Hackathon.
The competition focused on solutions that could help Kenya feed itself. Harvest Hub’s concept addressed the journey after harvest: handling produce, preserving freshness and connecting farmers with markets.

CLOSED PROJECT / ARCHIVED WORKTHE PHYSICAL HUB / DESIGN CONCEPT
The proposed design combined modular units and covered spaces. These architectural studies illustrated the intended hub, rather than a completed installation.
INSIDE THE PLAN
The site plan placed the hub’s working areas beside a main entrance and parking, with an existing building shown along the lower edge.
Offices supported the proposed operation. A weighing area provided a dedicated point for handling incoming produce. Cold storage and a shopping area connected preservation with the market-facing part of the hub.
The layout considered these functions together, so storage and trade could have sat within one planned facility.

THE INTENDED PRODUCE JOURNEY
The entrance, parking and weighing area formed the planned arrival side of the hub.
The designated cold-storage area placed preservation inside the hub’s proposed operating layout.
The shopping area gave selling a place alongside the produce-handling and storage functions.
THREE CONNECTED CHALLENGES
We explored closer connections between farm supply and market vendors’ needs.
We considered cold-chain storage to protect freshness between harvest and sale.
We explored packaging and value addition to help produce reach customers in a useful, appealing form.
